Zed on windows

Zed is now finally available on Windows. I’ve been using it instead of Visual Studio Code for a long time. It’s a great alternative, very fast and responsive, properly configured for work right out of the box, and you can disable AI with a single button. I recommend giving it a try.

Raylib gets a new renderer

This great gamedev framework has been improved with the release of rlsw.h. Single header software renderer for Raylib that removes the dependency of OpenGL, meaning Raylib applications will be able to run on machines without any form of GPU.

Massive Unity Security Exploit

Unity have just reported a major security exploit vulnerability affecting most platforms and all versions of Unity going back to Unity 2017 all the way up to the most recent Unity 6.x releases. This exploit targets games and applications created using Unity, not the Unity editor itself. The exploit, demonstrated on Android, enables malicious actors to exploit a security flaw to run arbitrary code. In the Unity Hub, all versions of the Unity editor 2019 and up have an update available that fixes that security vulnerability.

EA’s flirtation with AI is going as anyone would predict

According to Business Insider, EA’s rollout of AI in game development through its own AI chatbot has not gone to well. It’s claimed that the generative AI tool is prone to “hallucinations”, requiring actual human developers to go in and fix its mistakes, costing time and money.

Affinity is free

The photo from the sale and the announcement of the revolution ended with the announcement that Affinity is free. They merged Photo and Designer into one application.

Mailroom

Mailroom demo release

A horror job simulator where you work in the mailroom of a small regional office of Hell located in Modesto, California. A very fun and nice looking game made in Godot.

Making a Cozy Game

An interesting episode of the Jonas Tyroller podcast with Kathrin Radtke from Spellgarden Games. I recommend listening, especially if you are interested in making a “cozy game”.

What I played

Slots & Daggers

Slots & Daggers and Pereelous

I bought both on the day Slots & Daggers release (Pereelous came out a bit earlier). Both were very cheap at around $5, and both were based on slot machine mechanics. Both were great, and if you like roguelike slot machines, I encourage you to try them.

The Outer Worlds 2

More The Outer World 1. More or less the same formula, no great RPG, but the story is interesting. I haven’t completed it yet, so my opinion may change :)

Dispatch

After playing the phenomenal demo, I bought it and am waiting for all seasons to be released. I don’t know why they’re still trying to do this in 2025, but oh well.

My work

Void Clicker has its mechanics ready, and I’ve started working on the graphics and content. There are no gifs yet because I don’t want to show a jumble of assets and temporary graphics that look hideous :)

Since gamedev is an escape from work and a form of relaxation for me, a second idea was nagging me, and I’ve also started a second project. Also a small game, set in a fantasy world with mages and magic. That’s all for now, as I’m not sure if I’ll continue with it; I need to let a few friends play it to see if it’s even worth getting into.

And that’s it for this month!
